Laughter is the Best Medicine...for Eating Crow!

The post-game interviews over the last two games have had a different energy, an excitement that is similar to the fawning of the media that Obama recently experienced. The journalists are very quick to laugh at whatever witticism that Coach Gillispie is doling out. Like enamored Elvis fans who just caught the sweaty, soaked scarf that the King tossed into the crowed; he can say or do not wrong...now.
Just three games ago they were grilling him, with an unforgiving intensity treating him more like John McCain. Questioning his offense and defensive philosophies, imploring him to concede the need for a third scorer; a comment that he deftly shot down with a sarcastic, "I guess you guys need a story...I guess that Dick Vitale inspired you to write a story about a third scorer. I want five or six more scorers." (paraphrased) Ouch. Man, the guy can cut right to the heart. In most of the interviews, pre-the Tennessee whopping, the questions were pointed with uncertainty and they were smugly condescending. Surely this slow speaking Texan just had not realized that he was out matched for the job of Coaching the Wildcats. Maybe they felt that he needed their expertise on all things Basketball. Funny really, watching them fall all over themselves to garner the graces of Coach Gillispie and willing sacrificing themselves as springboards for a classic Billy G. one-liner. Boys, I hope that Crow is good. I have a feeling that you will be eating it a lot this year.
But on the more positive note, the Wildcats are 3-0 in the SEC (14-4 overall), defeating a pre-season and then ranked Vols team in Knoxville, Vandy in Lexington, and a very physical Bulldogs in Georgia. They are slashing turnovers like General Motors is slashing prices, they still have room to go but it is not 31. Meeks is shooting nearly 50% from the 3-point line and 96% from the free throw line. Reminds me of someone....hmmmm....Kyle Macy, be sure to wipe your hands on your socks. Porter is providing leadership and stability, along with very timely points (and most of Big Blue Nation would have sold him for a handful of beans, magic or not...good thing the majority doesn't rule in this Gillispie dynasty). My only concern is Patterson. I hope that he is not being overshadowed and under-appreciated this year (by the fans), he is the anchor that holds this team in place...I really hope he stays for another year. And then there is Perry wiping away the opposition's would-be points with the wave of his hand, then using both of them to slam it home on the other end. I am so freakin' stoked about the success we have already experienced this season and can't wait for more to come. Welcome back to the top Kentucky. You have been sorely missed. This is where you belong.

  2. I'll be in Wildcat country next week. Any chance of seeing a USC/UK game while there?
